Here come the migrants. No visas required!

It’s migration season for some of our colourful winter visitors. No, not the human tourists, but our feathered friends. Bird migrations are happening right now. 40% of Belize’s 590+ species are migrants, with most of these little super-birds travelling well over 1,000 miles. Even the tiny hummingbird can fly up to 5,000 miles to reach warmer climates such as Belize. The world record migration is the Arctic Tern, flying an incredible 55,000 miles every year!

Often the birds arrive in Belize exhausted and starving. This is when we see them on the ground, apparently in distress. Usually they just need a safe spot to rest for a few hours before they find food. But occasionally they are injured or sick, or just too weak to recover, and they need a little more help. If you think a bird may be in trouble, call or WhatsApp Belize Bird Rescue on 610 0400 for advice.

Remember this little miracle has flown for hours and even days to reach the Jewel and he deserves our care and hospitality!
