Our First Egg!

Polly-wu and Nacho have produced an egg. These two yellow-head Amazons (Amazona oratrix belizensis) are first-time parents and have actually only been together for a year or so.

We have our fingers crossed, but are very aware that new parents don't always succeed in hatching an egg, let alone raising a baby.

These two are still quite habituated in that they are not at all wary of people and in fact, Polly-wu seems determined to attack and kill any human in the area, which makes their release prospects quite slim. However, if they are successful in raising a chick, it’s possible we could look at trying them out at Payne’s Creek in the hopes that becoming parents may act as a reset on their natural wild selves.

We’ll keep you posted!
